Presidency is an opportunity for each Member State, regardless of its size or the length of the membership, to influence the EU agenda and guide the EU endeavours. Latvia for the first time is assuming this task from 1 January 2015 to 30 June 2015 taking it over from Italy and afterwards handing over the reins of the presidency to Luxembourg.
The presidency represents the Council in relations with the other EU institutions; it cooperates with other Member States and General Secretariat of the EU Council, the Commission, European Parliament and the President of the European Council. The presidency represents the Council also outside the EU.
Presidency is not all about politics. It is a responsibility and a unique opportunity for all of us personally – to work together, expand borders of cooperation, and raise awareness of each other. Rotating presidencies is an opportunity to get to know European diversity in order to grow stronger together and to govern, organise and influence our futures better and better.

IFOAM EU is an independent regional group within the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM).
We advocate for the development and integrity of European organic food and farming and fight for the adoption of ecologically, socially and economically sound systems based on the principles of organic agriculture – health, ecology, fairness and care.
With more than 160 member organisations from the EU-28, the EU accession countries and EFTA, our work spans the entire organic food chain and beyond: from farmers and processors, retailers, certifiers, consultants, traders and researchers to environmental and consumer advocacy bodies.
The IFOAM EU Group contributes to shaping and implementing Community agricultural, environmental, health and consumer policies and regulation in a number of ways.

The Association was founded in 1995 as a professional involving clean environment preserves, people working in organic farming and supporters of „green” way of living.
The Association units 15 regional departments and representatives of 13 branches. At the end of 2014 the number of Association members reached 1312.
At the end of 2008 the Main Office of the Association was formed in Riga, in the building of Ministry of Agriculture with the aim to represent the interests of its members more successfully by participating in working groups of the Ministry of Agriculture and of other farmers’ organizations.
ALOA is a member of Latvian Agricultural Organization (LAOCC), in addition for solving different issues it cooperates with associations Latvian Farmer’s Federation, Latvian Fund for Nature and Friends of the Earth. ALOA is a member of “Farmers’ NGO Advisory Council” „Environment Consulting Board”.
The goals of Association:
- To unite organic farmers, environment friendly management and farming supporters and users of eco-organic products;
- to form the market policy and find niche and opportunity for organic products;
- to develop education system and to provide the opportunities for organic farmers to improve their knowledge and skills;
- to inform the society about the about the role of natural products in the health preservation;
- to promote in society the environment friendly and sustainable household management methods;
- to represent the members’ interests in State and self-government institutions as well as in non-governmental organizations;
- Formation of organic farming policy;
- to attract to the Association people from different fields of activities being interested in organic farming.
